Wowee! I have been in the field for about a month now. I'll be honest, there were a lot of bumps along the way, but I made it through those hard times by hoping for better days to come and having faith in my Savior that he would not forsake me. I have grown so much. Heavenly Father truly knows us so well and he even knows what kind of struggles we all personally need to experience in this life in order to return to his presence. I read in 1 Nephi 20 this morning, and in verse 10 it said "For, behold, I have refined thee, I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction." Our trials are meant to shape us. Every hardship is like a little moment where our Father in Heaven spends time shaping us into the person he knows we can become.
Brother Johnson or "Verny Vern" is doing great!! He still has a long way to go before he can be baptized, but he has come so very far in such a short time. I am so proud of him, and yes, he's still a tease! haha
I went to a nursing home this weekend to visit and sing with the old people. I sat next to an adorable old lady named Alberta. She sang so loudly during each song, it was soo cute! I gave her a picture of Christ, and I asked her why she loved her Savior. She was a total doll!I had an extra picture, so on our way out, I handed it to a lady sitting in a wheelchair, she grinned with excitement as she looked at the picture. I told her that she could have it, and she whispered, "oh! It is so beautiful..." I loved being able to share my testimony of our Savior with these people who often feel very lonely. <3
Chiggers? Yes. They are a real thing. I think I have about 47 bites just on my thighs alone! I sprayed bug spray (with DEET) all over my body too. Oh man, there's no escaping these little stinkers! I also have two bites IN my belly button.... what? Dang, it's just all a part of the experience, I guess. haha
On Saturday, we drove out to Weston, a cute-old town. We passed an old lady sitting on her porch swing, with her cat. We decided to stop and talk with her. Once we got to her door, she ran inside to hide from us, so we placed a picture of Christ on her porch swing and then strolled back to our car. We drove by her house again about 15 minutes later, on our way back to Platte City, and she was sitting on her swing holding the picture and looking off into the distance pondering. I don't know why, but it made my heart melt. I sure hope we brightened her day.
I finally feel like I am getting the hang of things. A mission: touching hearts and changing lives, for eternity. The church is true! Love you all :) I hope your summer is going well!
Love, Sister Timothy MUAH!
